Public Safety update: Upcoming winter storm

Dear UC Community,

In preparation for the upcoming winter storm, we want to share planned closures and adjustments to university services this weekend. Additionally, you will find safety information and a list of how you will receive a closure notice, should the university close.

As forecasted, conditions are likely to be snowy and icy. The university grounds crew will be working diligently throughout the weekend. Please be patient as crews do their jobs and remember to follow the safety tips outlined below.

Adjustments to university services:

• Parking and Transportation Services will close the top decks of Blood Cancer Healing Center, Campus Green, Corry, Eden, Stratford, and University Ave. garages at 6 p.m. today, Jan. 23. Please move your vehicle to a lower level.
• MarketPointe and OTG Dining Centers will be the only dining centers open on Saturday and Sunday. They will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. They may offer a modified menu or operate with a reduced number of stations. Any additional announcements will be posted on Instagram and on the Dining Services website.
• Shuttle Service operations will be limited or closed on Sunday, depending on the weather. For the latest updates, use the TRANSLOC live shuttle tracker. The tracker may be accessed via the web link or through the UC Mobile app.
• The Campus Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday. It will be closed on Sunday. Any changes to these hours will be posted on the Campus Recreation website.
• Tangeman University Center (TUC) will be open normal hours on Saturday. Chick-fil-A will be open 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Cincy Grill will be open 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. These hours may be adjusted if conditions require early closure. TUC and the Bearcats Package Center will be closed on Sunday. Any changes will be posted to the @ucmainstreet Instagram.
• All nine UC Libraries locations will be closed on Sunday. Up-to-date information can be found on the Libraries webpage and LiBlog.

If you are looking for information regarding a service not mentioned above, please look on their webpage or contact them directly.

The following units never close under any circumstances: College of Medicine, University Police, Office of Residence Life/Housing units, utility plants, emergency maintenance operations, any research unit where the integrity of the research must be preserved, and service units that routinely operate on a seven day per week, 24 hour per day service schedule.

Winter storm safety tips:

• Stay inside and avoid prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.
• If you do go outdoors, stay warm with layers of warm clothing, including a water-repelling jacket, hat, and gloves. Be aware of the signs of frostbite and hypothermia.
• Limit driving to only when necessary. If you must drive, use extreme caution by driving slowly and increasing following distance from other cars.
• Completely clean snow off your vehicle before driving. Snow-blocked lights and flying snow from cars limits visibility and can cause accidents.
• Be aware of crews clearing roads and keep a distance from snow plows.
• Stay aware of snow emergency alert levels. The Hamilton County and Clermont County sheriff offices will declare the level of snow emergency in the county. You can also check local news for updated information.
• A list of warming locations in Hamilton County is available online.
• Hamilton County has an emergency notification system that includes weather alerts. Sign up online.

University closure information:

If the university closes, the information will be communicated in the following ways:

• A notification will be sent via email, text message, and Bearcat Guardian.
• An emergency message will be posted to the university homepage and the UC Alert webpage and the faculty and staff intranet, Bearcats Landing.
• UC social media will carry closing information via social media (@uofcincy and @ucpublicsafety).
• Most local news media will include UC in closure listings.
