A free residential clean-up and recycling day is available to all Simi Valley residents. The event will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, located at 2801 N. Madera Road. This free landfill day is a great resource for disposing of unwanted items and helps prevent illegal dumping.
In addition to the residential clean-up and recycling event, residents may also pick up a free load of compost at the landfill. Each household is limited to two bags of compost. Participants are responsible for packing and transporting their own compost and should bring sturdy trash bags or a trash can, a shovel, and gloves for handling.
Simi Valley residents must provide proof of residency, such as a driver's license or waste and recycling bill with a Simi Valley address. A household may dispose of up to two loads. A maximum of five passenger or pickup tires may be dropped off. Participants are asked to separate recyclables from non-recyclable waste to facilitate efficient recycling. Loads must be covered during transport to prevent litter.
No commercial wastes, commercial vehicles, hazardous waste, electronics, liquids, household batteries, products containing mercury (such as thermometers and thermostats), or fluorescent light bulbs are allowed. Household hazardous waste (HHW) can be dropped off at one of the City of Simi Valley's Free HHW events, hosted on the third Saturday of every odd month. Appointments can be made by visiting the City of Simi Valley's website at https://www.simivalley.org.
