On January 5, 2026, at approximately 11:21 p.m., officers from the Port of Portland attempted a traffic stop near Northeast Prescott Street and Northeast 116th Avenue. The driver did not stop and fled the area at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle but continued to monitor its direction of travel and relayed updates over the radio.
The vehicle was last observed traveling eastbound on Northeast Fremont Street from Northeast 112th Avenue with its lights turned off. Shortly afterward, the Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC) received a report of a vehicle on fire near the intersection of Northeast 124th Avenue and Northeast Fremont Street.
Officers from the Port of Portland and the Portland Police Bureau responded and determined the burning vehicle was the same one that had eluded police. The vehicle crashed near the intersection after striking a parked car and subsequently caught fire. Officers found that the diver had been ejected from the vehicle and was still very close to it. Officers quickly moved the driver from near the burning vehicle and attempted life-saving measures; however, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Portland Police Bureau's Major Crash Team is responding to investigate the incident. During the investigation, Northeast Fremont Street will be closed between Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 125th Avenue.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to email [email protected]… and reference Portland Police case number 26-4796.
