Congressman Bennie G. Thompson Announces More Than $22.4 Million in Federal Head Start Funding for Mississippi's Second Congressional District

BOLTON, MS - Congressman Bennie G. Thompson today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $22,493,185 in federal funding to support Head Start and Early Head Start programs serving children and families throughout Mississippi's Second Congressional District.

The grants will strengthen early childhood education, expand access to comprehensive child development services, and provide critical support for working families across the Mississippi Delta.

The grants include:

  • Bolivar Community Action Agency, Inc. - $9,554,815 for Head Start Projects.
  • Washington County Opportunities, Inc. - $2,051,418 for Head Start Projects.
  • Washington County Opportunities, Inc. - $9,054,648 for Head Start Projects.
  • Washington County Opportunities, Inc. - $1,832,304 for Early Head Start-Child Care Partnerships.

Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide high-quality early learning experiences while promoting children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. These programs also connect families with health care, nutrition, and community resources that foster long-term well-being.
