Tulane welcomes new faculty members to the university

Tulane University welcomed new full-time faculty members during a reception marking the conclusion of New Faculty Orientation, an annual program designed to connect new faculty hires with the resources and opportunities available to support their success.

About 40 faculty members representing schools across the university attended the reception hosted by the Office of Academic Affairs and Provost.

"You can tell a lot about the future of a university by looking at its new faculty, and based on this cohort, we should all be very excited about our future," said Robin Forman, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. "This is a group of exceptional scholars, dedicated teachers and mentors, and pathbreaking researchers working at and beyond the frontiers of their disciplines. We are so proud to welcome them as our newest colleagues."

Tulane has hired approximately 150 new full-time faculty members since September 2025. Each school onboards new faculty hires annually, although the number varies from year to year and school to school.

Forman and Dean of Libraries Lindsay Cronk delivered remarks at the reception. They encouraged the new faculty to take advantage of the university's offerings, with particular emphasis on library resources and support for research.

New Faculty Orientation is held each year on the Friday before classes begin and follows orientation activities organized by individual schools. Just as new Tulane students learn about life at Tulane during Hullabaloo Hello, participating faculty spend orientation becoming acquainted with what it means to be a part of the university community.

Throughout the event, faculty attended sessions that introduced them to various aspects of Tulane and the resources available to them. Topics included research support, funding opportunities and professional development.

While the in-person orientation is currently offered to full-time faculty members hired between September of the previous year and the beginning of the new academic year, Tulane also provides a New Faculty Orientation course through Canvas. The course, which relaunches in September, is available to all newly hired faculty members and allows them to explore university resources more extensively.

Additional opportunities for faculty to make connections and learn about available support include an employee resource fair on Thursday, Sept. 10. The fair will feature many of the departments represented during New Faculty Orientation, along with other university offices and resources.

Together, the orientation opportunities give new faculty members an introduction to the people, programs and services that will support their teaching, research and development at Tulane.
