Lancaster, CA. October 6, 2025 - At the Tuesday, October 14 City Council Meeting, the Lancaster City Council will consider adopting a resolution of intent that would allow the City Council to begin the process of transitioning from at-large to district-based City Council elections.
If approved, this action would initiate the process to allow the City Council to transition to district-based council elections in accordance with the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA), including opportunities for public engagement and input.
"Lancaster has a long-standing commitment to being proactive and fiscally responsible," said Vice Mayor Marvin Crist. "By considering this resolution, the Council is taking steps to protect taxpayer resources, avoid costly litigation, and continue delivering the high-quality governance our community expects."
Cities across California have faced lawsuits and millions of dollars in fees for not implementing district-based elections. Lancaster's forward-looking approach ensures the City is addressing the requirements of the CVRA now while safeguarding public funds and preserving continuity in local government.
Throughout this process, Lancaster will continue its tradition of cohesive and transparent governance, with no interruption to services or representation for residents.
The City Council encourages the community to participate in this important discussion. The October 14 Council Meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 44933 Fern Avenue.
