Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement on Voting Against the Partisan Republican Spending Bill

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) released the following statement following her vote against House Republicans' partisan spending bill.

"I will not support a partisan, Republican spending bill that fails to cancel their cuts to health care and does not protect the American people from rising health care costs.

"I will support a bipartisan funding agreement that meets the needs of the American people and lowers the cost of health care.

"Right now, Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. If they refuse to negotiate on a government funding bill, then a government shutdown is on them.

"Passing a bill to keep the government open requires Democratic votes, but Republicans hold all the cards and are threatening a shutdown by trying to jam through a spending bill on their terms alone.

"American families are already struggling. Earlier this year, Republicans passed one of the largest ever cuts to health care, forcing patients to shoulder more of the burden. They are tightening the screws on families who are already struggling to pay their bills.

"I will not go along with Republicans' scheme to strip Americans of their health care and drive up costs. That's why I voted against the bill."
