SGMC Health Awards Edwards-Blackshear with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing

SGMC Health honored Telvasha Edwards-Blackshear, RN at SGMC Health Main, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This international recognition celebrates nurses who exemplify compassionate care, clinical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to their patients and colleagues.

Edwards-Blackshear was nominated by a grateful patient who praised the thoughtful, attentive care she provided throughout their stay on 4W. She took time to explain procedures and medications, helping the patient feel informed and reassured every step of the way. Knowing the patient had several medication allergies, Edwards-Blackshear went the extra mile to carefully verify medications, providing an added sense of comfort and confidence in their care.

"You can tell when someone truly loves what they do, and Nurse Telvasha is one of those people," the patient shared. "Her compassion, professionalism, and dedication made a difficult time much easier for me."

The DAISY Award is presented monthly in front of the nurse's colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer's Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a floral arrangement of daisies donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health's local DAISY Award sponsor.

SGMC Health is committed to creating a supportive environment where nurses can thrive through leadership development, mentorship, recognition, and opportunities for professional growth. This dedication was nationally recognized in 2026 when SGMC Health earned designation as a Great Workplace for Nursing, reflecting its commitment to supporting and empowering nurses at every stage of their careers.

SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who embody its tagline of Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness. To learn more about these awards and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
