Benson Road Improvements Open House
The City of Sioux Falls and the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) are planning improvements to the West Benson Road corridor between I-29 and Westport Avenue beginning in 2027. There will be an open house for the project on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in room 2510 of the Sanford Pentagon (2210 W. Pentagon Place).
Personnel from the City Engineer's Office, the SDDOT, and the City's design consultants will be available to discuss any questions about the upcoming construction project. There will not be a formal presentation.
Within the I-29/Benson interchange, the SDDOT will be completing various concrete driving-lane, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and traffic signal improvements. The City of Sioux Falls will be
reconstructing all of West Benson Road between the interchange and North Westport Avenue. The City's improvements will include two through lanes in each direction, dedicated turn lanes at intersections, a raised median, sidewalks on both sides of the street, storm drainage infrastructure, and new traffic signals at Westport Avenue and Martindale Road. Private utility companies will also be completing work in conjunction with this project.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2027 and be substantially complete, weather
permitting, in the fall of 2027. The final project completion is scheduled for the summer of 2028.
