200 Local Youth Graduate from New Brunswick Summer Soccer Academy

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (August 5, 2026) - Two hundred youth participants celebrated their graduation from the Summer Soccer Academy during a ceremony held Thursday at the New Brunswick Middle School auditorium.

This year's anti-violence themed program honored the memory of Fernando Diaz, a longtime participant and camp leader.

Mayor Jim Cahill delivered opening remarks, commending the graduates for their dedication. "Every day, you trained and practiced. You improved your skills, learned to work as a team, and showed the discipline it takes to get better," Cahill said. "The Academy has always been about more than soccer. It is about building character, confidence, friendships, and the habits that will help you succeed long after you leave the field."

Deputy Chief Michael Bobadilla, who directs the academy, praised the community's support and highlighted camp accomplishments, including daily soccer training and a visit from the Rutgers University women's soccer team.

In addition to athletics, participants completed community service projects ranging from neighborhood cleanups and preparing meals for the homeless to hosting a fundraising car wash for Elijah's Promise. Female campers also participated in a Women's Professional Development Day.
