WASHINGTON - Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) is supporting the bipartisan Safeguarding Transit Operations to Prohibit (STOP) China Act. This legislation supports American manufacturing and American workers by eliminating loopholes in current law that allow the U.S. government to buy Chinese buses and rail cars. The bill will protect domestic transit supply chains from malign Chinese influence by preventing any U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) funds from being awarded for the purchase Chinese-made transit buses or rail cars.
"When our own taxpayer dollars are used to subsidize Chinese companies that undercut American manufacturers, we're selling out our workers and risking our national security," said Senator Gallego. "I'm proud to support this bipartisan bill to make sure our investments support good-paying jobs in Arizona and across the country while keeping our transportation infrastructure safe from foreign adversaries."
The STOP China Act is endorsed by the Alliance for American Manufacturing, Steel Manufacturers Association, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, United Steelworkers, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and Transport Workers Union of America.

The STOP China Act builds on Senator Gallego's record of both standing up to China's unfair trade practices and protecting American jobs. Earlier this year, Senator Gallego backed the Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act to crack down on China's unfair trade practices that hurt American workers and businesses; introduced theKeep Call Centers in America Act to discourage companies from offshoring call center operations; and introduced the SHIELD Against CCP Actto create a dedicated working group at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to address threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
