Washington, D.C. - Congressman Shri Thanedar issued the following statement in response to the fatal shooting by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis.
"I am horrified by the fatal shooting committed by ICE agents in Minneapolis. An innocent woman was murdered, and her family and community deserve answers. Any use of deadly force by federal law enforcement must be taken seriously and reviewed in full. A full investigation into this shooting must be conducted immediately."
Rep. Thanedar has previously introduced legislation to end qualified immunity for ICE agents, warning that broad enforcement powers combined with limited oversight put communities at risk and erode public trust. He has consistently called for transparency and accountability measures to ensure ICE agents are held to the same legal standards as American citizens.
"This tragedy underscores why Congress must end qualified immunity for ICE agents. It's clear ICE is a group of untrained thugs and they should not be above the law. I will continue fighting to end qualified immunity to ensure ICE agents are held to the same legal standards as every other American."
Rep. Thanedar extends his condolences to the victim's family and to the people of Minneapolis. He will continue fighting for answers and reforms to ensure a horrific event like this never happens again.
