Greiner Comments on the Budget

July 13, 2026

HARRISBURG - Rep. Keith J. Greiner (R-Lancaster) issued the following statement on the 2026-27 state budget:

"Although I am glad there are Republican concepts and ideals included in the budget, including not tapping into the Rainy Day fund, we did, however, use an accounting maneuver to defer $1.2 billion in payments that are due this fiscal year and won't be paid until next year. In reality, our spending remains too high, and our structural deficit remains around $5 billion. The budget of $50.9 billion still spends far more than taxpayers can afford.

"We are fortunate that anticipated revenues are significantly higher, this year likely due to President Trump's tax cuts in the Big Beautiful Bill and Republican initiatives, such as historic permitting reform, investments in career and technical training, leaving the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, and meaningful welfare reforms, that were included in last year's state budget.

"With the budget complete, we need to continue to work toward a responsible fiscal solution to the skill games issue. It must be one that is fair for social organizations, businesses and the Commonwealth. In addition, we need to start focusing on pro-business policies that encourage job creation and economic growth, including the development of a robust energy program. These policies will provide a more sustainable state revenue stream for decades to come."
