Update on Construction Projects in Lake Tahoe

Placer/El Dorado County - Caltrans is advising motorists of the continuation of several construction projects within the Lake Tahoe Basin next week.

Along State Route 28 (SR 28), construction on a $31.7 million pavement rehabilitation project continues. The contractor for this project is Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka. With the majority of the paving now complete, the contractor is now working on drainage and guardrail work along SR 28 for the following dates/times/locations next week:

  • Guardrail work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect in the Dollar Drive area from Sunday, July 12 at 7 p.m. until Friday, July 17 at 7 a.m.
  • Drainage work is scheduled eastbound along the shoulder between Anderson Road and National Avenue in Tahoe Vista from 7 a.m. until noon Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17.
  • Drainage work is scheduled in both directions along the shoulders between Brassie Avenue and the State Route 267 junction from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16. Work is also scheduled Friday, July 17 from 7 a.m. until noon.
  • Drainage work is scheduled westbound along the shoulder at Chipmunk Street in Kings Beach from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16. Work is also scheduled Friday, July 17 from 7 a.m. until noon.

Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City is scheduled for a one-night closure for the contractor to complete some touch-up items for the new bridge. Fanny Bridge will be completely closed from 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16 until 9 a.m. Friday, July 17. Motorists can use the Lake Boulevard bypass to get around the closure.

Along State Route 267, crack-sealing operations continue in the Northstar area with one-way traffic control scheduled from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16.

Along State Route 89 (SR 89), preparation work for a pavement rehabilitation project is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect at various locations from 7 p.m. Sunday, July 12 through 6 a.m. Friday, July 17 between the Nevada/Placer County line in Truckee and Alpine Meadows Road. No work is scheduled during the daytime hours.

In El Dorado County along SR 89, paint striping operations are scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect between the Alpine/El Dorado County line and the U.S. Highway 50 junction in Meyers from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17.

A broadband project on SR 89 along the West Shore is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed internet into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Broadband work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect along SR 89 in Placer County during the following dates and times:

  • 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12 until 7 a.m. Monday, July 13
  • 6 p.m. Monday, July 13 until 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16 (no work each day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.)
  • 6 p.m. Thursday, July 16 until 7 a.m. Friday, July 17

Crews will focus on work in the Homewood area and just south of Tahoe City.

Broadband work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect along SR 89 in El Dorado County in various areas from 9 p.m. Sunday, July 12 through 7 p.m. Friday, July 17.

Motorists could encounter delays of up to 20 minutes at each location. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment and material availability, or other unexpected events.
