The University of Toledo's Dr. Steven Sucheck, a professor in and chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, is being recognized for his outstanding service and contributions to the field of carbohydrate chemistry.
The American Chemical Society's Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry presented Sucheck with its 2026 Melville L. Wolfrom Award during the society's spring meeting from Sunday, March 22, to Thursday, March 26, in Atlanta.
Dr. Steven Sucheck is a professor in and chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
"I am deeply honored to receive the Wolfrom Award," Sucheck said. "This recognition reflects years of service to the ACS Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry and the broader glycoscience community through co-organizing scientific programming and supporting symposia that bring our field together. These venues allow students, academic, government and industry researchers to share their work, helping shape new scientific directions while strengthening the community essential for career development and collaboration. It also recognizes the creativity and dedication of the students, collaborators and colleagues I have had the privilege to work with in our research programs."
Sucheck specializes in bioorganic chemistry, specifically the design and synthesis of small molecules and molecular probes with specific biological activities.
He is the second UToledo faculty member to receive the prestigious Wolfrom Award. Dr. Peter Andreana, another professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, received the Wolfram Award in 2023.
