RELEASE: Senator Mullin Welcomes Lawton Public School Students to Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. - On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) welcomed 46 Lawton Public School students and teachers to the U.S. Capitol. The group was participating in the Close Up Foundation High School Program.

"It was a pleasure to visit with some of the best and brightest students from our Lawton Public Schools. I am encouraged by their enthusiasm to learn more about the unique history of our great nation and how Washington, D.C. is meant to work for them," said Senator Mullin. "Our students are our future. I will continue to fight each and every day for what is best for them and all of Oklahoma."

Background on the Close Up Foundation:

  • Since 1971, Close Up has provided the Washington civic education experience to nearly 1,000,000 participants.
  • Close Up programs seek to educate, inspire and empower students by providing them with the skills and experience they need to become active citizens in our democracy.
  • Each year, Close Up schedules almost two thousand meetings on Capitol Hill for participants to meet with their Members of Congress and staff. These meetings demonstrate the accessibility of democratic government while providing a forum for students to express their views on policy issues.
