Visit by Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Development Alvin Tan to Bogotá, Colombia and Santiago, Chile, 8 to 17 September 2026

Minister of State (MOS) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Development Alvin Tan is on a visit to Bogotá, Colombia and Santiago, Chile.

In Colombia, MOS Tan met Vice President José Manuel Restrepo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Omar Bula Escobar, Minister of Commerce Mauricio Gómez Amín, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Juan José Álvarez López, Vice Minister of Environmental Policy and Standardization Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero Ruiz, and Vice Minister of Environmental Land-Use Planning David Olarte Amaya. During his meetings, MOS Tan highlighted Singapore's interest to strengthen economic and people-to-people linkages with Colombia, particularly through the Pacific Alliance-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, once it is ratified by Colombia. MOS Tan also met Mayor of Cali Alejandro Éder and officials from the Office of the Mayor of Bogotá, during which they discussed opportunities for deeper cooperation in areas such as sustainability and urban management.

In Chile, MOS Tan co-chaired the inaugural Singapore-Chile Political Consultations with Chile Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Patricio Torres. They took stock of the good progress in Singapore-Chile relations, reaffirmed the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, and discussed ways to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. MOS Tan also met Minister of Social Development and Family María Jesús Wulf, Undersecretary of Mining Álvaro González Gorroño, and Undersecretary of Housing and Urban Planning Natalia Aguilar Bravo. During his meetings, MOS Tan discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, logistics, sustainable development and social policies. MOS Tan met Mayor of Santiago Mario Desbordes and Mayor of Providencia Jaime Bellolio, and exchanged views on deepening cooperation in urban development, smart cities, and municipal services.

MOS Tan also met with leaders and senior representatives of Singaporean companies in Colombia and Chile, and discussed their operations in port operations, shipping, agri-trade, and commodities.

MOS Tan departs Chile for Singapore tomorrow.
