Celebrating the Retirement of Mary McLachlan

June 22, 2026

After 14 years of dedicated service to Western Washington University, Mary McLachlan is retiring from her role as Assistant to the Vice Provost.

Throughout her time at Western, Mary has been a valued and trusted colleague whose kindness, good humor, administrative expertise, and remarkable ability to adapt and solve problems have made a lasting impact. Her professionalism and commitment helped support the work of Extended Education and Outreach and Continuing Education (OCE) and contributed greatly to the success of the university and its extended community during that time.

Before joining Western, Mary served as secretary to the principal and administrative assistant at Conway Elementary School in Mount Vernon for 14 years, where she also earned a reputation for exceptional service and the ability to wear many hats.

Mary's positive spirit and unwavering support have made her greatly loved by her colleagues in OCE. She has been a source of encouragement, wisdom, and friendship to many, and her presence will be deeply missed.

As Mary begins this exciting new chapter, we thank her for her years of service and the countless ways she has enriched our community. We wish her all the best in retirement and look forward to hearing about the many adventures ahead.

- Robert Squires, Vice Provost, Outreach and Continuing Education
