MIAMI, FL - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28) announced that he has withdrawn as Co-Chair of the Congressional Friends of Spain Caucus following the Spanish government's actions undermining our bilateral relationship & its increasingly hostile actions against America's closest ally, the Jewish State of Israel.
In a letter to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Congressman Gimenez said Spain's recent policies against Israel and the Israel Defense Forces are incompatible with the democratic values the caucus was created to promote.
"Spain has long been an important ally of the United States, but Prime Minister Sánchez's government has chosen political posturing over moral clarity," said Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez. "I cannot continue serving as Co-Chair of a caucus dedicated to strengthening ties with a government that is actively undermining one of America's closest allies. I stand firmly with Israel and with every democracy fighting terrorism."
Congressman Gimenez concluded his letter by expressing hope that Spain will one day return to a foreign policy rooted in support for democratic allies, the defense of freedom, and moral clarity.
