Fairfield Fire opens public review of Community Wildfire Protection Plan

The Fairfield Fire Department has released a draft Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for a 30-day public review and comment period. The plan covers the City of Fairfield and the Cordelia Fire Protection District and is intended to help identify wildfire hazards, community values at risk, mitigation priorities, evacuation and preparedness considerations, and emergency response needs across the Fairfield Fire Department service area.

The CWPP was developed over the past year and a half with input from City departments, CAL FIRE, Solano County, law enforcement, Travis Air Force Base, school districts, utilities, community organizations, landowners, neighborhood representatives, and other local and regional partners. The planning process also included a multiagency wildfire tabletop exercise and development of GIS-based maps and supporting data.

"The public review process is critical to making this plan practical and effective," said Fairfield Fire Chief John Sturdee. "Community input gives us the ground-level insight needed to pinpoint local risks, refine evacuation strategies, and build a safer, more resilient Fairfield and Cordelia."

The public review period will be open from October 1 through October 30, 2026.

Residents, property owners, businesses, and other stakeholders throughout Fairfield and the Cordelia Fire Protection District are encouraged to review the draft and provide comments. Participants are not expected to read the entire document. The Executive Summary provides an overview of the plan, and reviewers may focus on the chapters, maps, or topics most relevant to them.

The draft plan and public comment form are available at:
