NORFOLK, Va. - The City of Norfolk and contractor, MEB, will host the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new joint use fitness and wellness center at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10 at 7300 Newport Ave.

Remarks will be made by Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Ph.D., as well as Mark Olmstead, Executive Vice President of MEB, and Chad Poultney, Chief Operating Officer of Clark Nexsen.

This new enhanced 100,000 square foot facility will elevate the health, wellness and connectivity of the Norfolk community. The project will incorporate recreation and library facilities including a natatorium, gymnasium, full library, locker and meeting rooms, along with other amenities.

Demolition of the previous facility began in the spring. With a projected cost of $68 million, the new facility is expected to open in Fall 2027.
