Volusia County brought together emergency responders, local governments, and community partners today for its annual Hurricane Preparedness Exercise designed to strengthen coordination and readiness ahead of the peak of hurricane season.

Held at the Volusia County Emergency Operations Center in Daytona Beach, the training simulated the approach and impacts of a hurricane affecting the county. Participants worked through a series of evolving scenarios that required agencies to coordinate response efforts, share critical information, and make decisions under changing conditions.

The exercise included representatives from numerous County divisions, municipal governments, public safety agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners that would play key roles during an actual emergency. Participants tested communication systems, practiced interagency coordination, managed resource requests, and reviewed emergency operations.

Volusia County conducts the annual training as part of its ongoing emergency management program. Exercises such as this help strengthen the ability of organizations throughout the community to work together efficiently, protect lives, support response operations, and accelerate recovery following a major storm.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30. Residents are encouraged to review their hurricane plans, assemble emergency supply kits, stay informed about weather conditions, and monitor official information from Volusia County before and during severe weather events.
