Community Delivery Fund backs major transformation of Landale Wilson Hall

A major project to transform Landale Wilson Hall into a modern, accessible community hub has taken a significant step forward after being awarded support through Test Valley Borough Council's Community Delivery Fund.

Enham Trust has been awarded £200,000 in funding to help deliver ambitious plans to refurbish the hall, ensuring it can continue serving the community for generations to come while creating new opportunities for disabled people and local residents to connect, learn, work and socialise.

The project will see the ageing community building redeveloped into a fully accessible and sustainable facility at the heart of Enham Alamein. Proposed improvements include better access throughout the building, new accessible toilets and changing facilities, improved parking, enhanced energy efficiency and the creation of flexible spaces that can support a wider range of activities and services. Plans also include a new village café, helping to create a vibrant community destination for residents and visitors alike.

For more than 100 years, Enham Trust has supported disabled people to live, work and enjoy life as independently as possible. The charity believes the refurbishment will help tackle social isolation, improve wellbeing and create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate fully in community life.

The project has already received overwhelming support from the local community. Consultation carried out with residents, hall users and stakeholders found 100 per cent support for the proposals, with feedback highlighting the need for improved accessibility, flexible community space and a sustainable facility capable of meeting future needs.

Councillor Phil North, leader of Test Valley Borough Council, said: "We're delighted to support this exciting project through the Community Delivery Fund. I've been encouraging Enham Trust and Aster to upgrade the Landale Wilson for some time. It plays an important role in village life, and these plans will now help ensure it remains a welcoming, accessible and sustainable community asset for many years to come.

"This investment is about much more than improving a building. It is about creating opportunities for people to come together, reducing isolation, supporting inclusion and strengthening community life. Enham Trust has a remarkable history of supporting disabled people and we're proud to be backing their vision for the future."

Councillor Stewart MacDonald portfolio holder for community-led projects, said; "What makes this project particularly special is the level of support it has received from the local community. Residents, hall users and stakeholders have helped shape the proposals, and it's clear there is a shared ambition to create a facility that meets the needs of current and future generations.

"The plans would not only improve accessibility and make better use of the building, but also create opportunities for new activities, services and community connections. We're pleased to support Enham Trust at this stage and look forward to seeing the proposals progress through the planning process."

While the funding award marks an important milestone, the project must still progress through the normal planning process. A planning application has now been submitted and Enham Trust will continue to work closely with planning officers as the proposals are considered.

Subject to planning approval, funding will be released and work on the refurbishment is expected to begin during the 2026/27 financial year.

The Community Delivery Fund supports projects that strengthen local communities, improve local infrastructure, and create lasting benefits for residents across the borough. If approved, the refurbishment of Landale Wilson Hall will help safeguard an important community asset while creating a more inclusive, resilient and connected future for Enham Alamein.
