MAYOR'S UPDATES

Husky Stay Covered Task Force: This week, I was joined by Stamford Health President & CEO Kathy Silard to announce the launch of the HUSKY Stay Covered Task Force, a community initiative to educate Stamford residents about upcoming changes to Medicaid (HUSKY). Our goal is to proactively communicate the new federal requirements to residents in order to prevent unnecessary coverage loss.

School Construction Corner - The City of Stamford's Operations Department launched its first issue of Building Excellence, our community's source for updates on the construction and enhancement projects across Stamford Public Schools. From major new buildings to important upgrades in our existing schools, this newsletter will share progress shaping the future of our district. Westhill Pool: Exciting news! All required local Board approvals have been reached for a new state-of-the-art indoor pool as part of the Westhill High School construction project. The pool will enhance student learning and athletics, while expanding recreational opportunities for broader public use and serving as a valuable community resource.

Small Business Hours: The City of Stamford Office of Economic Development is offering limited one-on-one appointments for Stamford small business owners to meet with our Small Business Counselor and a representative from Ives Bank. These sessions will take place at the Government Center on the 7th floor on April 2 and April 9th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Autism Acceptance Month Family Fun Day: The Stamford Police Department will host a "Family Fun Day" at the Stamford Police Station on April 9th. This is a free, sensory-friendly interactive event for the community to come together to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month.

Beach Permits: Beach permits are now available for purchase online, by mail, or in person at the Cashiering and Permitting Department. Residents are encouraged to buy their permits early rather than wait until beach season! Permits are required beginning on May 1st through September 30th. Click here to apply.

Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, visit here

AARP Tax Aide: AARP Tax Aide will be available at the Government Center in the 4th floor cafeteria Monday and Thursday from 10:00 am - 5:30 pm (walk in). For more information click here.

Learning in Retirement: Registration has begun for Learning in Retirement. Morning classes are offered in music, art, history, current events etc. For more information, the catalog, and to register go to lirstamford.org

City Events

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony: The Stamford Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 17th at 12:00 pm. Kickoff will start at the Stamford Police Department Headquarters and finish at Veterans Memorial Park.
Traffic

Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.

Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic. Residents can click here for updates.

Eversource Underground Transmission Project: Eversource has started construction on the installation of two new underground cables to replace the cables installed in 1968. The following streets will be affected. To sign up for updates and learn more visit here.

Newfield and Crane
-
Work continues at Newfield and Crane for the vault installation. Newfield Avenue will be closed at Crane on 3/28 and 4/4 for the vault installation.

Strawberry Hill and Crane
-
Pending permit issuance, crews will mobilize next week (3/9) to the intersection of Strawberry Hill Ave and Crane Road for another vault installation.

There will be two, one day closures of Strawberry Hill Avenue at Crane currently scheduled for 3/21 and 3/28.

Strawberry Hill Ave will have signalized one-way alternating traffic at Crane from 3/9 to 3/30
-
Cedar Heights Road between Alpine St and Duke Dr
-
Cedar Heights Road will be closed from 3/30 to 5/12 between Duke Dr to Alpine Street with a detour down those roads. There will be no access through the work zone, but all houses will be accessible

High Ridge Road at Cedar Heights
-
Tentatively starting April 1, there will be only one northbound lane on High Ridge Road at Cedar Heights/TOR. During the day, there will be two southbound lanes, but at night during work, there will be one sound bound lane. This will last for 3-4 weeks.
