Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among Pennsylvanians aged 65 and older. In 2023 alone, falls led to 2,022 deaths and 68,644 hospitalizations across the state, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

More than 56% of trauma patients at Reading Hospital are evaluated for injuries related to falls, making it the most common cause seen.

Here are some important do's and don'ts to help you identify potential risks and take proactive steps to avoid injury and create a safe environment.
