Dolly Parton had a lighthearted reaction to her wardrobe malfunction in the '70s.

The Country Music Association shared a clip from the 1978 CMA Awards, when Parton won the Entertainer of the Year honor. The East Tennessee-born country star, then 32, became only the second woman in history to win the highest award, following Loretta Lynn 's victory in 1972.

"I do appreciate that," Parton said as the audience applauded. "I had this dress made in case I won, and about five minutes ago, I was hoping I wouldn't win because I busted the front out of it," she shared, and the crowd laughed. "My daddy said that's what I got for putting 50 pounds of mud in a five-pound bag," Parton joked. She went on to share her gratitude for the honor. "Everything's been good, and I had a whole bunch of stuff that I thought I might say, but I guess I'll just say thank you and I do love you. Thank you. Thank you for your coat, Marianne [Kenny Rogers' wife at the time, actress Marianne Gordon]!"

Parton received dozens of CMA Award nominations throughout her career, and won a total of 10 of them. Her wins include Female Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Duo of the Year with Porter Wagoner. Parton's list of wins also includes CMA's Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which she earned in 2016. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, and received the CMA Foundation Humanitarian Award in 2021, according to the Country Music Association.

Parton "died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old," stated an official announcement on Tuesday, August 25. Representatives for the beloved country legend said in a statement to PEOPLE , "after bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones." The country music community honored Parton and mourned her loss in an outpouring of tributes.

"At the end of the day, few artists define Country Music better than the one-word, Dolly," Country Music Association CEO Sarah Trahern said in a statement. "Over her decades-long career, I worked with her on a number of programs. She was always the most professional in every setting, often walking off the bus in heels and hair and makeup ready to go, before expected and before the cast and crew. However, along with the music, our biggest loss today is her work as a philanthropist and the genuine difference she has made in people's lives throughout the world. There will only ever be one Dolly."
