The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) published its 2025 Clean Energy Industry Report, highlighting continued growth in the state's clean energy workforce. Now in its eleventh year, the annual report is produced by OER in partnership with the Renewable Energy Fund and BW Research Partnership and provides a consistent, comprehensive assessment of employment trends across Rhode Island's clean energy sector.
The 2025 report finds that clean energy employment in the state exceeded 15,000 jobs for the first time in five years, adding more than 200 jobs and outpacing overall job growth in the state. Supported by the Clean Heat RI program, renewable and energy-efficient heating and cooling emerged as a significant driver of Rhode Island's clean energy job growth, adding 185 jobs, a 4.7 percent increase.
Other segments of the clean energy workforce also continued to expand. Employment in engineering, research, and professional services increased by 2.3 percent, indicating a rebound after a decrease in prior years. The installation, maintenance, repair, and operations segment continued to account for the largest share of clean energy employment, with 163 additional jobs representing 1.9 percent growth.
The findings from the 2025 Clean Energy Industry Report offer policymakers, employers, workforce organizations, and other stakeholders valuable insights for tracking the state's clean energy economy and informing workforce planning.
