Front Range registration enforcement surge results in nearly 1000 citations

From August 23-29, 2026, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) joined law enforcement agencies across the Front Range in a coordinated enforcement effort targeting expired vehicle registrations and unregistered vehicles.

The enforcement surge was organized in response to community concerns about vehicles operating with expired or missing registrations. During the weeklong effort, participating agencies reported issuing a combined 955 citations:

• Colorado Springs Police Department: 313 citations
• Aurora Police Department: 275 citations
• Denver Police Department: 251 citations
• El Paso County Sheriff's Office: 57 citations
• Fountain Police Department: 48 citations
• Manitou Springs Police Department: 7 citations
• Monument Police Department: 4 citations

While the coordinated zero tolerance surge enforcement has concluded, CSPD and its regional partners remain committed to intentional enforcement of vehicle registration requirements. Moving violations, including speeding, distracted and reckless driving, and driving under the influence, also remain enforcement priorities.

The enforcement effort aimed not only to issue citations but also to encourage compliance and remind vehicle owners of their responsibility to keep registration current. Proper vehicle registration supports accountability on Colorado roadways and helps ensure vehicle owners contribute to the public services and infrastructure supported by registration fees.
