Arizona Senator Mark Kelly called Arizonans who reached out to his office because they are worried they will no longer be able to afford their health insurance if Congress allows the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits to expire. During the calls, Kelly listened to their stories and reaffirmed that he is fighting for them so they can continue to afford their health care coverage.
Sen. Kelly speaks with Arizonans. Here are the stories of the Arizonans Senator Kelly spoke with:
Dennis from Lake Havasu:
Dennis is a 66-year-old retiree who told Senator Kelly he worked in ship repair for over 33 years. His wife, 62, depends on ACA coverage to afford her care until she qualifies for Medicare. Dennis's wife currently pays $444 a month with a $720 tax credit. If the tax credits lapse, the premiums could rise to more than $1,100, threatening their retirement plans. The couple recently got a motorhome and had planned to travel together.

Eric from Tucson:
Eric is a small business owner and photographer who says health care uncertainty makes it harder for entrepreneurs to grow and hire. He currently pays $450 a month for coverage for himself and his wife and told Kelly he never would have been able to start his business without the ACA. If his premiums increase because the tax credits are allowed to expire, he fears he might have to close his business and find another job that provides insurance.
