Washington, D.C. - Today, House Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member (CT-01) released the following statement after House Republicans passed a resolution to block inquiries into 'DOGE' operations at Social Security from coming to the floor for a vote for the remainder of the 119th Congress.
"We are calling again for 'DOGE,' Elon Musk, and the whistleblowers to come before us for hearings. Today, Republicans voted to block us from bringing our Resolutions of Inquiry to the floor - an oversight tool the minority party in Congress has had since 1879," said Larson. "When Democrats are in the majority, holding 'DOGE' and this administration accountable for these serious data privacy violation allegations and subpoenaing them to come before the committee under oath will be my first order of business. From allegations of uploading the records of every single American to an unapproved server to scheming to use your private data to try and overturn elections with an outside group, and copying your confidential information onto a thumb drive for personal use in the private sector, 'DOGE' has been combing through 300 million Americans' records without transparency or explanation. Even Trump's own Department of Justice has admitted to wrongdoing by 'DOGE.' Over the last year, Ranking Member Neal and I have tried to launch inquiries to get to the bottom of these criminal schemes. Rather than joining with us to get answers for the American people, Republicans have stayed silent - running cover for President Trump, Elon Musk, and 'DOGE' at every turn. Congress is a co-equal branch of government that answers to the people, not Trump or his cronies. While Republicans have abdicated their responsibility, Democrats will continue to fight to hold 'DOGE' accountable for these alleged privacy violations and get the truth the American people deserve."
This is the third time the House has voted to blockinquiries into 'DOGE' activities at Social Security even after two separate whistleblower reportsalleging serious violations of data privacyand a case filing from Trump's own Department of Justiceabout 'DOGE' signing a 'Voter Data Agreement' with an unnamed advocacy group seeking to hand over confidential information in an effort to overturn election results.
Ranking Member Larson and Ways and Means Democrats have introduced four Resolution of Inquiry into 'DOGE' activities at the Social Security Administration, aiming to compel records relating to:
Access to Social Security systemsgranted to Elon Musk and 'DOGE' employees,
the Trump Administration's cuts to Social Security, including staff reductions, phone service restrictions, and field office closures,
'DOGE' efforts to hand Social Security records to an outside groupworking to overturn state election results,
and a whistleblower allegationthat 'DOGE' copied personal records to an unsecured cloud - including names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and home addresses.
