NEWTON COUNTY, GA - The Newton County Board of Commissioners appointed Susan G. Nolley to the position of County Clerk Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The unanimous vote during the first Regular Meeting of the month elevated Nolley from her role as Deputy County Clerk, in which she has served since May 2021. She received her certification as a Georgia Certified Clerk in February 2024.
Following the retirement of long-time clerk Jackie Smith in July, Nolley assumed the duties of the County Clerk position.
Nolley started her career with Newton County in the Sheriff's Office more than 30 years ago.
"I am grateful for the opportunity and committed to serve the citizens of Newton County in the role of County Clerk," Nolley said.
The County Clerk works closely with the Board of Commissioners, responsible for maintaining all minutes and records all acts, orders and proceedings for the Board.
"Susan will do a great job as County Clerk," said Linda Hays, Newton County Interim Chairman. "Her years of working in the office with the Board of Commissioners has made her an excellent choice to take on this vital position."
