At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Education (MOE) briefing on government policies supporting Taiwan's youth. The premier said that, ahead of the new academic year starting in September, the MOE is reporting progress on a range of innovative initiatives aimed at youth development. These initiatives empower young people at every stage of learning and growth, from campus life and academic advancement to career planning, with the goal of cultivating talent across all sectors of the nation.
Premier Cho highlighted several key MOE policies, including efforts to reduce the cost disparities between public and private schools; provide financial aid for college and university housing; create new, improved school dormitory environments; and offer scholarships to doctoral students. These policies have effectively eased students' financial burdens, improved the quality of student accommodations and encouraged youth engagement in advanced research. Given these positive outcomes, the premier directed the MOE to continue these efforts.
Regarding the NT$10 billion (approximately US$327 million) Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative, Premier Cho instructed relevant ministries and agencies to maintain support for collaborative projects, and the MOE to continue advertising the initiative, so as to encourage youth participation, broaden their international outlook, and enhance the global visibility and competitiveness of Taiwan's young talent.
