Our original pump track reached the end of its useful life after last season, so we're bringing a new one to Isthmus Park this spring! Delivery is currently scheduled for early next week, with installation following as schedules allow. We look forward to seeing you and your wheels out on the new track!
Olympia Spring Arts Walk on April 24 & 25
Mark your calendars for Friday, April 24, from 5-10PM, and Saturday, April 25, from 12-6PM, as Arts Walk lights up Downtown Olympia with a vibrant two-day celebration of community, culture, and the arts! Read more.
We Are Hiring!
We're hiring for a variety of roles, including Summer Camp Counselors, Seasonal Park Maintenance staff, a Senior Park Planner, and substitute instructors for early childhood programs. Apply for most positions at olympiawa.gov/jobs, and email [email protected] for early childhood roles.
Poetry
Poet Janée J. Baugher will lead an ekphrastic writing workshop and headline a poetry reading with an open mic on April 18 in Olympia. A separate crowdsourced poetry event will take place April 27 at Orca Books. All events are free and open to all experience levels. Read more.
Volunteer Opportunities
Join us for an upcoming Parks Stewardship Volunteer Opportunity! Tools, gloves, and light refreshments provided. Youth under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Learn more or sign up at Volunteer Olympia.
Welcome Figure Installation and Landscaping Project
Construction continues at Isthmus Park to install a Welcome Figure by local Squaxin Island tribal member and carver Andrea Wilbur-Sigo, along with new landscaping and seating. You can now see large logs and driftwood on the site, near the base of the 4th Avenue bridge. Work should be completed in early May. Questions: [email protected]
AAHPI
Mark your calendars for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Heritage Celebration on May 23 from 11 am to 4 pm at South Puget Sound Community College in Lacey. This annual event, hosted by the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition of South Sound and sponsored by the City of Olympia, features vibrant performances, workshops, resources, art and food. The event is free and welcoming to all. For information, visit tinyurl.com/apicheritage2026.
Yashiro Japanese Garden Relocation
Yashiro Japanese Garden will close June 1, 2026. The property has been sold to the Squaxin Island Tribe. Key garden features will be preserved, and the new garden will continue honoring Olympia's Sister City relationship with Kato, Japan. A new location has not been selected yet, and community input along with an expert designer will help guide the process. The project also aims to better connect the garden with the community and reflect today's cultural ties. Read more.
