Shepherd University to Inaugurate 17th President Cameron B. Wesson Oct. 30

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd University will hold the investiture ceremony for its 17th President, Dr. Cameron B. Wesson, on Friday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m., at the Butcher Athletics Center.

The ceremony will be part of a three-day Inauguration Celebration taking place Oct. 28-30, featuring events for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the broader community.

"This is a milestone in the life of any university, and a historic moment for Shepherd," said Dr. Jack DeRochi, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, who chaired the inauguration committee.

"The events surrounding Dr. Wesson's Inauguration reflect the values that define Shepherd University-especially our commitment to the student experience, a quality that drew him to Shepherd and continues to shape his vision for our future."

Wesson's first 90 days focused on meeting with various stakeholders across campus and in the community.

Student Government Association President Tyler Furbee sits on the inauguration committee. He said that Wesson's efforts have established a strong connection with students.

"Ever since arriving at Shepherd University, Dr. Wesson has demonstrated a strong commitment to our campus community and has made students feel truly welcome," said Furbee. "Being able to celebrate and be a part of this historic event is an absolute honor for our student body."

Although Wesson began serving as president on July 1, 2026, his Investiture Ceremony will mark his official installation into office.

On the morning of Oct. 30, Wesson will host "A Welcome Beginning: Student Event with President Cam" on the midway. Following the ceremony, the community is invited to a reception at 3:30 p.m. in the University's Wellness Center.

The Inauguration Celebration will conclude with a Shepherd University Jazz Ensemble Concert honoring Wesson at 7 p.m. in the Frank Arts Center.
