Rosen Announces $3 Million in Federal Funding She Secured for Nevada Northern Railway

ELY, NV - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that she secured $3 million in federal funding to restore the Nevada Northern Railway. This funding was awarded through the Department of Transportation's Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Grant Program, which Senator Rosen helped fund through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that she helped write and pass. The federal funding will go toward the rehabilitation of nearly 127 miles of the 120-year-old rail corridor in White Pine and Elko Counties. The project will also reconnect the corridor to the national railroad system for the first time since 1999.

"For over a century, the Nevada Northern Railway has been a staple of Northern Nevada - first to serve copper mines in the area, and now as a historic and cultural destination," said Senator Rosen. "I am proud to have secured the funding for the rehabilitation of one of Nevada's most historic railways. I will continue supporting Nevada's transportation and tourism industries by working to secure resources and funding for projects across Nevada."

As a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Senator Rosen has been a strong advocate for Nevada's transportation needs. This year, she helped secure $25 million in federal funding for the Sun Valley Boulevard Corridor in Northern Nevada. Last year, Senator Rosen joined Senate colleagues to demand that the Trump Administration stop funding cuts and prioritize safety following mass layoffs and the firing of essential transportation safety employees. She also helped secure critical funding to improve transportation for Tribal communities in Nevada.
