NMA Applauds Expansion of the Critical Minerals List

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Mining Association (NMA) today released this statement in support of the USGS expansion of the Critical Minerals List, which acknowledges both the essential role a secure supply of a wide range of mined materials plays in national security, economic stability and supply chain resilience, and our problematic import dependence for far too many of them.

"We greatly appreciate these key additions to the list and continue to believe that all minerals are critical," said Rich Nolan, NMA president and CEO. "This administration - and the USGS itself - has acknowledged the challenges associated with any specific list given the reality that what is considered essential today might change tomorrow given the rapid pace of innovation, and our recent experience has shown the world how global events can redefine criticality overnight. Today's step to expand the list is crucial in securing our supply chains, but we will continue to seek the expansion of the list to ensure that the U.S. has the abundant domestic resources it needs, when it needs them."
