Pro-Second Amendment Bill to Take Effect

PIERRE, S.D. - On July 1st, Governor Larry Rhoden's bill to deregulate suppressors and protect the 2nd Amendment will go into effect. SB 2 deregulates firearm suppressors at the state level by removing them from the definition of a "controlled weapon."

"The right to keep and bear arms is a cornerstone of our freedom, and removing unnecessary restrictions is essential to preserving that freedom," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "I am proud that South Dakota is the most Second Amendment-friendly state in our nation, and I will continue to work hard to ensure that remains true for generations to come."

South Dakota was the first state in the nation to remove suppressors from the list of controlled weapons, sending a message of support for further deregulation to happen at the national level. Other states have since taken action to similarly deregulate suppressors.

"The NRA applauds Governor Rhoden's steadfast support of the Second Amendment, and SB 2 was just the latest example of that in the legislature," said Brian Gosch, National Rifle Association State Director.

Governor Rhoden signed SB 2 at a signing ceremony at Silencer Central with the bill's prime sponsors and stakeholders in the Second Amendment advocacy and firearms manufacturing industries. You can find a photo of the signing here.
