WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), chairman and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after their meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney.
"We were happy to welcome Prime Minister Carney to the United States Capitol today. America and Canada share tremendous cultural and economic ties, and our meeting with him today-as well as his meeting with President Trump- demonstrated that we truly are stronger together.
"Canada is a security partner and a close ally of the United States. We will continue to work with Prime Minister Carney and his administration as it prioritizes increasing Canada's defense spending and NATO contributions as well as modernizing the North American Aerospace Defense Command to meet the real threats that both of our nations face. Together, our countries will work to strengthen our economies with equitable trading practices and fight economic coercion from our shared adversaries. As senators from states who share a border with Canada, we welcome renewed bilateral dialogue in the best interests of the Canadian and American people."
