China Media Group's Asia-Africa Center, together with Chinese embassies and local think tanks, recently organized seminars in Pakistan, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Kenya, and Türkiye to discuss the China-proposed Global Governance Initiative (GGI).
Officials, scholars, and media representatives said the initiative helps close the global "governance deficit", strengthens the voice of the Global South, and supports a fairer international order.
Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane described the GGI as "timely and necessary," stressing its focus on equality and people-centered governance. Türkiye's Energy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar added that it provides constructive solutions to global problems, humanitarian crises, and energy security-areas where the current system has fallen short.
Experts also voiced strong support. Kenyan international affairs expert, Cavince Adhere said many international organizations and institutions have long been dominated by a few countries, while Herman Tiu Laurel, president of the Philippine-BRICS Strategic Studies and a well-known political commentator said the Western-led system has harmed smaller nations. Cambodian researcher Neak Chandarith noted that the GGI's call for a multipolar and balanced order reflects the shared aspirations of the Global South.
