WATCH: MeidasTouch Network Presents "State of the States" With Governors Beshear, Shapiro, Sherrill, Healey, Hochul, and Lujan Grisham
On the heels of Donald Trump's disastrous State of the Union, The MeidasTouch Network hosted a "State of the States," where Governors Beshear, Shapiro, Sherrill, Healey, Hochul, and Lujan Grisham outlined how Democratic governors across the country are continuing to fight for and deliver for the people in their states.
Democratic governors remain the last line of defense against the Trump administration. They continue to make real progress on lowering costs for families and driving economic growth in their states, despite the chaos coming out of Washington, D.C.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear:
-
"[Donald Trump is] saying this is the golden age of the American economy. Well, maybe to his own family that's profiting off him being president. But so many American families out there are struggling to pay the bills. Yet we have a president that doesn't hear them, doesn't see them, and will not do anything to address their challenges.
-
"We [in Kentucky] are winning in spite of Donald Trump, not because of him. Since I've become governor, we've set every record, $45 billion of new investment, 68,000 new jobs. Last year, our highest average incentivized wage for new jobs in our history, almost $30 an hour that brings a better future for our families. We just broke our all-time exports record with over $50 billion of Kentucky products sent all over the world, and that is even with bourbon taking a hit - which is directly related to Donald Trump's attacks."
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro:
-
"[Pennsylvania's] unemployment rate has been below the national rate for 32 straight months. Our businesses are opening and, at a rate better than any other state, staying open. We created the fourth-most amount of jobs in the entire country right here in Pennsylvania over the last three years. Our economy is growing. Violent crime is down 12 percent. Fatal gun violence is down 43 percent. Test scores are up. Graduation rates are up. The number of teachers is finally growing again in our Commonwealth. And we've managed to do all of this, as you said, by bringing Republicans and Democrats together, but also by protecting people's fundamental rights and freedoms.
-
"Every day we're making progress in Pennsylvania, despite the fact that the federal government is trying to take away our money, despite the fact that the federal government fights us every step of the way."
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill:
-
"On Day One, I stopped my inaugural address and signed two executive orders to freeze rate hikes on utility costs, declaring a state of emergency… It's not just about doing the big things well, the structural changes we need in the state to drive down costs and invest in working people, it's also about doing those day-to-day things well… showing people that well-run government can make their life better.
-
"Here in New Jersey, my key focus is driving jobs, driving a good economy, creating opportunity for people. And the Gateway Tunnel, not only is it an incredibly important piece of infrastructure, not only does it impact those commuters and their quality of life every single day, but it also could be responsible for almost 100,000 jobs in the region… This should be something that a president, any president of the United States, should welcome. And yet, instead, we see the president attacking it… This isn't his money. This is the people's money… I'm not going to quit fighting for that, and I'm not going to quit fighting for [the people of New Jersey]."
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey:
-
"As governor, I'm going to continue to do what I need to do, which is to focus on what people need in my state. I'm trying to lower housing costs by building more homes. I've got 100,000 housing starts underway in just the last three years here in Massachusetts to drive rents down, to drive prices down. I'm focused on lowering energy costs by bringing in more energy supply to the region and getting unnecessary charges off of people's bills… I think about health care. As governor, I capped co-pays and deductibles for people…
-
"When [Trump] was taking an estimated 300,000 Massachusetts households off of insurance last December, last month essentially, I found a way to make sure that they were funded and that people continue to get care in Massachusetts. That's leadership. That's what we need to do. And I know that that is what it means to actually deliver for people at this moment, in contrast to what Donald Trump and his administration are doing and continue to do."
New York Governor Kathy Hochul:
-
"I appreciate to draw the profound contrast between what is supposed to be leadership out of the White House and leadership of Democratic governors, because it is a stark difference.
-
"I've been talking about affordability my entire time as governor, for years, and not as a buzzword, as you said. You know, we have implemented plans this spring. People are going to feel the effects of the largest middle class tax rate cut in 70 years in New York. We also have $1,000 for a child tax credit going to every single parent with a child under the age of four. We gave out inflation rebate checks… We're also providing free community college education for adults over the age of 25 who want to go into a field where we have high demand… And lastly, [universal] child care… We're doing that in New York. So I think about [affordability] day and night, and what we can do, not just politically, to show a contrast, but actually as government leaders, how we can deliver for the people who put us in office."
New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham:
-
"I hope people in New Mexico are feeling really optimistic about their futures… We have funded universal child care, the first in the nation… We're building a workplace and work system for the future, and we're focused on families and their affordability. We're leaning into making sure your health care is affordable. We've leaned in to make sure your utility bills are affordable. We're putting hundreds of millions of dollars into building housing and affordable housing options… We want life to be meaningful, affordable. We want you to feel like your family's got unlimited opportunity in this state. And it's working.
-
"[Trump] says he wants to focus on Americans. He's not focused on Americans - unless you're a billionaire… Democrats are delivering over and over and over again around the country, and this failed Trump agenda is leaving so many Americans behind."
