The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Louisiana is proud to join the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) in observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October.
U.S. Attorney Kurt Wall stated, "Far too often we have seen victims of domestic abuse hesitate to cooperate when they have been the victim of a crime. This might be because they blame themselves or they are fearful of the unknown if they come forward. It is critical that we support victims of domestic abuse and let them know that help is available for them to break this cycle."
The Department of Justice funds essential victim services through various grants that have been awarded throughout the Middle District of Louisiana. There is help available, including the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-SAFE(7233). Additionally, OVW's Resources for Victims and Survivors webpage lists coalitions that can direct victims to local resources and services, as well as opportunities to get involved.
