Dome Fire Update, October 5, 2026 (morning)

News Release Date: October 5, 2026

6,760 acres
40% contained
1,063 personnel

Operational Update

On Sunday, the fire remained within its existing footprint along the southern and western areas of the fire, where firefighters focused efforts on mopping up and improving containment lines. Crews continue to focus containment efforts along the fire's eastern flank. Helicopters are being used to make water drops and reposition firefighters to more active fire areas, including to support efforts to contain a slopover that crossed the Ostrander Lake Trail on Thursday. Pack mules continue to be used to move firefighting equipment, supporting crews as they work to build containment lines along the fire's eastern perimeter. Additional crews continue to arrive to assist with containment efforts moving forward.

Weather

Winds will be more westerly Monday afternoon, turning northwest later in the day with 5-10 mph winds with gusts of 10-15 mph in the afternoon. Mostly clear skies will continue Monday over Yosemite Park, with clouds to the northeast and east of the park. Warm and dry conditions are forecasted to continue.

Closures

Yosemite National Park is open and operating normally, with the following exceptions:

  • Glacier Point Road is closed due to reduced visibility from smoke and to safely allow firefighting operations. There are no imminent threats to infrastructure. The Four Mile Trail and Panorama Trail, providing access to Glacier Point, will remain open to hikers. Glacier Point Road will reopen when conditions allow. Backpackers already parked overnight at Glacier Point will be allowed to exit after the closure begins.

  • The Chilnualna Falls Trail, as well as the trails from the top of Chilnualna Falls toward Buena Vista and Crescent Lakes, are closed due to the Dome Fire. (These lakes are reachable from the east.)

  • The Ostrander Lake Trail and all areas and trails south of it are closed. The closed area extends east of the Wawona Road from Wawona to Chinquapin.

Drones and Aviation Safety

Unauthorized drones can force firefighting aircraft to stop flying, delay suppression efforts, and allow fires to grow. If you fly, we can't. Help protect firefighters, communities, and our nation's landscapes by keeping your drone away from wildfires. Aviation resources "Own" the airspace around wildfires.
