Over 100,000 Foreign-Made Components Found in the Drones and Missiles Russia Used to Attack Ukraine on the Night of October 5

6 October 2025 - 11:33

On the night of October 5, Russia launched a combined strike on Ukraine, deploying 549 missiles and drones that contained over 100,000 foreign-made components - sourced from companies in the United States, China and Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Netherlands. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his address.

"Every Russian missile and every Russian attack drone also contain parts that are still being supplied to Russia from Western countries and various countries close to Russia. Now, in the fourth year of the full-scale war, it is simply strange to hear anyone claim they don't know how to stop the flow of critical components," the Head of State emphasized.

During this attack, Russia used 496 strike drones, including roughly 250 "shaheds," and 53 missiles: 2 air-launched ballistic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles, 42 cruise missiles Kh-101 / Iskander-K, and 9 Kalibr cruise missiles. In total, these aerial weapons contained 102,785 foreign-made components. Approximately 100,688 foreign-made parts were found in the launched attack drones, around 1,500 in the Iskanders, 192 in the Kinzhal missiles, and 405 in the Kalibrs.

In particular, companies in the United States produce converters for Kh-101 missiles and Shahed/Geran-type drones, sensors for these UAVs and Kinzhal missiles, analog-to-digital converters for drones and missiles, and microelectronics for rockets.

Microcontrollers for Russian UAVs are manufactured in Switzerland, microcomputers for drone flight control in the United Kingdom, optoisolators for cruise missiles in Japan, switching connectors in Germany, processors in the Netherlands, and servomotors and bearings in the Republic of Korea. The largest volume of diverse microelectronics - at least 50 units in each "shahed" of various types - comes from China and Taiwan. All relevant data for each company and each component are provided to partners, and they know exactly what to target.

The Head of State noted that supply chains span several countries and stressed: all of this must be stopped. A meeting of the G7 sanctions coordinators is scheduled for this week.

"We are carefully monitoring and analyzing the components Russia continues to receive from third countries. Today, a systemic, coordinated G7-level decision is needed to close these loopholes and ensure sanctions are effective," emphasized Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Adviser - Commissioner of the President for Sanctions Policy.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy underlined that partners already have Ukraine's proposals for restricting supply chains and that we need them to make decisions. Ukraine is also preparing new sanctions against those who help Russia and its war.
