Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a 74-year-old woman who was found dead just after 9 a.m. Monday inside her home on Chateau Valley Court in North Nashville. An autopsy today revealed that Harriet Edwards, who lived alone, died as the result of strangulation while also receiving blunt force injuries to her head. The victim was found Monday morning on her bed by a longtime friend who had not heard from her in several days. A neighbor told investigators that she last saw Edwards on Friday.
After reviewing entries in a medical ledger Edwards kept, detectives strongly believe the murder took place between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The victim's home has been thoroughly processed by MNPD crime scene experts who are working with scientists at the crime lab. Detectives have been canvasing homes in the neighborhood checking to see if anyone saw a suspicious person(s) in the area on Friday afternoon. Nothing of that nature has been reported thus far.
Anyone in the Chateau Valley Court/Chateau Valley Drive area who may have seen anything suspicious last Friday is asked to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
