LACEY, Wash. - State regulators approved a $9,900 Grade Crossing Protective Fund (GCPF) grant to improve safety at the River Street crossing in Snoqualmie.

The Northwest Railway Museum will use the funds to install new crossing signal batteries and a new crossing event recorder. The batteries keep the signal working during power outages. The event recorder tracks crossing conditions and helps find and fix issues. These upgrades will benefit public safety by making the crossing signals less likely to fail.

About the GCPF

In 1969, the Legislature created the GCPF program to fund safety measures that help reduce accidents and fatalities at public and private crossings and along railroad rights-of-way.

About the UTC

The UTC regulates railroad safety, including approving new rail crossings and closing or altering existing crossings, investigating train accidents, inspecting railroad crossings, approving safety projects, and promoting rail safety education through Washington Operation Lifesaver.
