Portugal reaffirms commitment to NATO at Ankara Summit

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro is taking part in the NATO Summit in Ankara, where he is reaffirming Portugal's commitment to the Alliance, of which the country is a founding member, and highlighting Portugal's contribution to collective security.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said that increased investment in defence, the strengthening of the Armed Forces, Portugal's participation in NATO missions, the development of the national defence industry and continued support for Ukraine demonstrate that Portugal is "a reliable and proactive ally in collective security".

The NATO Summit, bringing together the Heads of State and Government of the Allied countries, opened today in Ankara and runs until Wednesday. Discussions are focused on the main challenges facing international security and on strengthening the Alliance's defence capabilities.
