TAMPA, FL. (July 24, 2026) - - With assistance from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Tampa Police has arrested 20-year-old Luciano Ibarra (white male, 01/19/2006) following a fatal crash that occurred on the morning of July 2, 2026, in the 11600 block of N. Florida Ave.
At approximately 7:13 am, Tampa Police responded to the report of a severe crash involving two vehicles. Preliminary information provided to investigators suggests that a blue 2022 Tesla was traveling northbound on Florida Ave at a high rate of speed at the same time a 2024 Volkswagen traveling southbound was attempting a left-hand turn to enter a local dealership. The resulting collision occurred on the passenger side of the Volkswagen, which caused the vehicle to overturn.
The driver and sole occupant of the Volkswagen, a white male in his mid-30s, suffered critical injuries. Despite the life-saving efforts provided by arriving officers, the man was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through extensive investigative efforts, it was determined that Ibarra, the driver and sole occupant of the Tesla, was speeding at more than 100 MPH moments before causing the fatal crash.
Ibarra was arrested on July 24, 2026, and charged with One Felony Count of Vehicular Homicide and One Misdemeanor Count of Operating a Vehicle at 100 MPH or More Threatening the Safety of Other People or Property.
