On March 25, 2026, H.E. Mr. Jia Guide, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Dr. Rolph Payet, Executive Secretary of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Conventions).
Ambassador Jia Guide said that under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, China adheres to the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", and has implemented a range of measures to improve chemicals and waste management and enhance its capacity in environmental risks prevention and control. Recently, the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for national economic and social development was approved at this year's "two sessions" -- the annual meetings of China's top legislature and top political advisory body. The 15th Five-Year Plan explicitly reiterates the importance of building Beautiful China. China is willing to deepen cooperation with BRS Secretariat to jointly advance chemicals and waste management and global environmental governance.
Dr. Payet noted that BRS Secretariat highly values China's role as a key party and great contributor to the BRS conventions, commends China's efforts in building circular industry, improving chemicals and waste management, and assisting relevant countries in capacity-building. He expressed the willingness to explore further opportunities for cooperation with China.
