BOZEMAN - Montana State University's Campus Recreation has been designated "Rec of the Month" by Campus Rec magazine, a national trade publication.
The article, published online April 2, features multiple photos of MSU's Student Wellness Center which brings together three departments to support holistic health and wellbeing for MSU's students. The article features a comprehensive overview of Campus Recreation's offerings.
"After several years of design and construction, MSU Campus Recreation moved into the new 162,000-square-foot Student Wellness Center in August 2024 - along with the university's Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Wellness, and the Health and Human Development Performance Labs," wrote the story's author Gracie Moore. "The [Student Wellness Center] features three 45-foot roped climbing walls, bouldering walls, three wood courts, a multipurpose activity court, expansive functional fitness areas with state-of-the-art strength training and cardio equipment, and an indoor track. An indoor pool provides four lap lanes, a leisure pool, saunas, a steam room and a movie screen for dive-in movie nights. Four fitness studios host strength, yoga, cycle, martial arts, dance classes and more."
The magazine also highlighted the Bike and Ski Shop, which teaches students how to repair and care for their equipment through workshops and clinics. It also mentioned that a 114,300-square-foot outdoor turf field, an indoor turf dome and grass fields are available for use by students, faculty and staff.
"MSU offers its students world-class facilities and engaging programming," said Spencer Sorensen, director of Campus Recreation at MSU. "That's been true for a long time, and even more so since 2024 when we opened our beautiful state-of-the-art Student Wellness Center facility."
The magazine provided a bulleted list of several "programming highlights," including events such as the Vertical Rush climbing competition, Expedition backpacking program and the Bobcat Summer Youth Camp for first through sixth graders each summer. Moore also included several "fun facts" about Campus Rec at MSU, including that the state's land-grant institution has more than 25 club sports, offers nearly 30 group fitness classes each week and welcomes around 2,100 people each day.
"MSU Campus Recreation gives students a variety of ways to stay active, connected and well," the magazine offered on Instagram.
