Board recognizes two with University Leadership Chair

The Missouri State University Board of Governors voted Aug. 8 to grant the University Leadership Chair to Brent Dunn, vice president for university advancement and executive director of the Missouri State University Foundation, and Matt Morris, vice president for administration and finance.

Dunn is recognized for successful fundraising efforts and Morris is recognized for his leadership in managing extensive campus additions and renovations over the last few years.

The designation is for two years, and each will receive $2,250 per year in supplemental pay.

"The board is proud to recognize Matt and Brent with the University Leadership Chair," said board Chair Tim Francka. "Their strategic vision and collaborative approach have been instrumental in advancing Missouri State's mission. This award reflects our commitment to acknowledging the administrators who make a real difference in our university's success."

Dunn led the Onward Upward campaign. The campaign concluded in October 2022 and raised $274 million for scholarships, faculty support, new and updated facilities, program enhancements and more. Since Jan. 1, 2023, the Missouri State University Foundation has secured more than $84 million in additional gifts and gift commitments.

To date, some major projects that have benefitted from private gift support included in the $84 million are the Clifton M. Smart III University Advancement Center, Judith Enyeart Reynolds Performing Arts Complex, Roy Blunt Hall, Greenwood interior renewal project, Agriculture Innovation Hub, and Wulff-Risner Agriculture Science Center in West Plains. Major gifts have also been secured for athletics, student scholarships, and faculty and program support.

Morris oversees planning, design and construction, which is currently working on more than 180 projects with budgets of almost $210 million. Major projects that have recently been completed include the Roy Blunt Hall addition, Grand Street pedestrian underpass, John Goodman Amphitheatre and Kemper Hall.

Major projects currently underway include Ann Kampeter Health Sciences Hall, Smart Advancement Center, Cheek Hall renovation, Reynolds Complex, Craig Hall renovation and addition, and the Roy Blunt Hall renovation.

Dunn has worked at Missouri State for 40 years and has served as vice president since 2007. Morris has worked at the university for 26 years and has served as vice president since 2015.

"Matt and Brent exemplify the exceptional leadership that drives Missouri State forward," said President Richard B. Williams. "Their dedication to fiscal responsibility and advancement excellence has strengthened our university's foundation and expanded our reach. I'm pleased the board has recognized their outstanding contributions with this well-deserved honor."

The Board of Governors established the University Leadership Chair in 2008 under the leadership of Mary Schrag. The board awards the endowed chair to members of the university's central administration who have demonstrated superb leadership.
